(Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images)If we learned something from this year’s NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago, it is that defensive linemen are getting even more freakishly athletic. Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat set the high mark at the position this year, running a 4.41 40-yard dash. One Penn State redshirt freshman says he has him beat. His time, if even close to accurate, is unreal.Defensive end Jayson Oweh is entering his redshirt freshman season in Happy Valley. After sitting out 2018, the former four-star recruit is expected to be a contributor for the Nittany Lions this fall. He’s going to bring some serious speed off the edge.On Wednesday, Penn State’s Jayson Oweh tweeted that he clocked in with a 4.33 40-yard dash. That would put him in rare company, regardless of position, much less for a defensive lineman listed around 6-foot-5, 250 pounds.4.33!!!! Talk To Me Nice🤮— Jayson Oweh (@JaysonOweh) April 24, 2019That number’s even more impressive than the one that his defensive line coach Shane Spencer floated when discussing Oweh’s improvement during the spring. From 247Sports:“You’ve got to remember, this is gonna be his fourth year of football. … Right around the (Citrus Bowl) practices, the switch started hitting for him,” Spencer said this spring. “And then all of the sudden now you’re talking about a guy that’s (6-5, 250 pounds) running a 4.42 (40-yard dash)… it’s starting to transfer over onto the field.“He’s a problem off that edge. It’s scary when he comes off that edge. And I’m happy about his progress mentally, too. I think at first he was taking a picture of things. Things were happening and he would take a snapshot of it instead of just going. He’s really taken some big steps.”Oweh’s still raw, but it sounds like Penn State’s staff plans on him being a big part of the equation this fall.last_img read more
