British Royal Marines are unused to hearing drones searching for them, day and night, as they prepare defensive positions. “It’s disconcerting being hunted,” says Lieutenant Colonel Duncan Forbes, Commanding Officer of 45 Commando. But that is exactly what is happening in the Mojave desert in California as 800 men drawn from across 3 Commando Brigade take on the US Marine Corps in the largest ever urban conflict wargame. The free-play exercise… The Arbroath-based unit have been training with their US colleagues in recent weeks, and the exercise will culminate with two five-day urban combat wargames, the first of which ended on Jan 30. The next and final battle is expected to start later this week.
