Notably, Prajnesh had made it to the main draw of all four majors in 2019 after making his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open.Prajnesh Gunneswaran, who overcame multiple career-threatening injuries to vault into the top 100, was broken as early as the first game of his US Open opener. He was 2-0 down despite Daniil Medvedev not coming up with the most comfortable holds.Prajnesh though fought back impressively by coming up with a love hold in the 3rd game. Prajnesh managed to break Medvedev’s serve, giving the in-form Russian an early scare but failed to capitalise on it as he lost the first game 4-6.Prajnesh was impressive with his forehand winners that carried a lot of power. Notably, Medvedev has 32-8 record on hard court this season and headed into the US Open with the most number of wins on the surface.Daniil Medevdev had entered the US Open on the back of Cincinatti Masters title before which he had reached the finals in Montreal and Washington.Sumit Nagal to face Roger Federer later in the dayLater in the day, India’s Sumit Nagal will be in action against 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadiumn.
