While he may lack the name recognition of some other coaches on the market, or even his predecessor, Grinch has the full confidence of the Oklahoma athletic department – and his salary reflects that.Oklahoma announced this evening that Grinch is slated to make $1.4 million in 2019.The amount would make him one of the highest paid coordinators in all of college football.Prior to joining the Sooners, Grinch served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2018.Alex Grinch will make $1.4 million as the #Sooners defensive coordinator: https://t.co/W5ucG4GaJm— OU Daily Sports (@OUDailySports) January 30, 2019Before serving under Urban Meyer, Grinch spent three seasons as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Washington State.Grinch replaces former defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, who was fired in October following a 48-45 loss to Texas. His interim replacement was Ruffin McNeil, who is slated to return to his former role as outside linebackers coach in 2019.Oklahoma’s defense struggled mightily in 2018, allowing 21 or more points in all but two of their 14 games, and allowing at least 40 points in six of them. The Sooners certainly have high hopes that Grinch can turn the defense around and are paying him like someone who has already done it.Grinch may have his work cut out for him in the pass-happy Big 12 Conference.last_img read more
