However, we must also be concerned about our health and the need to take precautions at this extremely difficult time. There is the need to remind ourselves that, it is just a phase that will soon change when we all abide by the protocols given to us by state. I urge everyone to continue to fully abide by all the protocols and the directives.During this period, I am engaging with all the major stakeholders to ensure that the football family is included in the government’s stimulus package to alleviate some of the hardship in our industry.I will continue to positively engage the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service and Government for the advancement of our beloved sport. It is unfortunate that we have to wait a little longer for our Extraordinary Congress, where some key decisions would take to impact positively on the game.I would, therefore, call on all of us to rally around and fight this deadly pandemic for the good of the industry. Finally, I want to thank all Club owners, Administrators, Footballers, Coaches Referees, the media and everyone involved in our sport for your professionalism and dedication to service. You showed class and selflessness until the season was suspended because of COVID-19.Together we will win this battle. Dodgers acquire RHP Bud Norris from Braves

first_imgMILWAUKEE — The Dodgers will plug the gaping hole in their starting rotation left behind by Clayton Kershaw’s back injury with a pitcher who lost his spot in the Atlanta Braves’ rotation earlier this season. The Dodgers acquired journeyman right-hander Bud Norris from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday in exchange for two minor-league pitchers. The Dodgers also received Double-A outfielder Dian Toscano, a player to be named later and cash considerations from the Braves in exchange for Class-A left-hander Philip Pfeifer (a third-round draft pick out of Vanderbilt last year) and Double-A right-hander Caleb Dirks.Dirks was acquired by the Dodgers from the Braves in a trade for an international bonus slot last year.Norris is scheduled to start for the Dodgers on Friday night at home against the Colorado Rockies, taking Kershaw’s spot in the rotation. “Bud’s been pitching well. I had him for a bit in San Diego,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who was the Padres’ bench coach when Norris finished the 2015 season there. “He’s really been throwing well. For him to give us a guy who can go deep into a game, can eat innings and get guys out was huge. We’re excited about it.”Norris, 31, is 3-7 with a 4.22 ERA for the Braves, including 3-5 with a 5.02 ERA in 10 starts. He lost his spot in the Braves’ rotation after going 1-4 with an 8.74 ERA in five April starts. After spending May in the bullpen, Norris returned to the rotation in June and has a 2.15 ERA and has held opposing batters to a .200 average in his past five starts — four of them Braves wins.“The mound presence, he’s a competitor,” Roberts said. “Plus-fastball. Works at the top of the zone. Curveball, change and he’s got a cut fastball. He’s a guy that gets righties and lefties out. He’s done a lot of things. He’s been around. He’s won. He’s always had good stuff.“This is a guy who’s last three, four, five turns he’s been as good as anyone in baseball. This was a nice job by our guys (in the front office to acquire him).” Norris is making $2.5 million this year and will be a free agent this off-season. In eight big-league seasons with four teams — the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles and Braves — Norris is 59-75 with a 4.43 ERA and 1.40 WHIP, primarily as a starter. His best season was 2014 when he went 15-8 with a 3.65 ERA for the Orioles.Toscano is a 27-year-old Cuban who batted .226 in 58 games for the Braves’ Double-A affiliate this season. In order to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Norris, the Dodgers designated Triple-A left-hander Ian Thomas for assignment.center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more
