Delhi footballer’s dreams dashed after private hospital fails to give required treatment

first_imgTanuj Bhatia, 23, who was all set to join the Delhi football team, instead landed in an operation theatre for not having given the precise surgery that he required at a top private hospital in Delhi.Tanuj has been passionate about football since childhood, but years of practice had made his knee ruptured, after which he knocked the door of a private city hospital. Doctors however, failed to provide him the precise surgery required for his failed Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).”On the advice of my doctor at the private hospital, I joined the football team, following 6 months of rest. However, my knee failed again. I spent huge chuck of money at the hospital and treatment was unsatisfactory. At Sports Injury Centre, doctors diagnosed a problem with my ligament and declared me unfit for the game,” Tanuj, who lives in Delhi’s Rajender Nagar area told Mail Today.Tanuj’s case is not the first one as doctors at Sports Injury Centre have received at least 10 cases with similar history.Speaking to Mail Today, (Prof) Dr Deepak Chaudhary, director of Sports Injury Centre said: “Tanuj’s Anterior Cruciate Ligament failed as a result of the previous surgery done at a private hospital. We did an arthroscopy surgery which would be followed by months of proper rehabilitation under the close watch of experts.”According to Dr Chaudhary, sportsmen who have undergone appropriate and precise procedure of reconstruction of ACL, have 95 percent chances of recovery.”With increasing failure of doctors at private hospitals, we are ending up handling more such cases, like nearly 10 cases a month,” he added.advertisementExperts noted that the cause of failure is the lack of expertise and knowledge.”The point of fixation should correspond to the native ligament. Nonanatomical placement of the tunnels is a common reason of ligament failure,” informed Chaudhary.ALSO READ | Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital doctors excel in cochlear implantslast_img read more
