first_imgBUNCRANA CLG NOTES (26.06.2016)Féile Hurling Report It was that time of year again for the Buncrana hurlers, Féile time. The bags were packed the grips were tightened and their new Féile gear was presented, so we were ready for our trip to TIPP. We decided to make the long trip on the Thursday so as the lads would be well rested for our 1st game on Friday against a local Tipperary side Clonoulty/ RossmoreGame 1 Vs Clonoulty/Rossmore, TipperaryDespite the planning and preparation the lads were not themselves and were very sluggish. Clonoulty/Rossmore wanted to make a mark on their home pitch in front of their home support and was very much up for the game, and while the lads battled throughout. The final score was 5-3 to0-3 to Clonoulty/RossmoreGame 2 Vs Dour Roads Roscommon After a disappointment of the 1st game the lads 1st competitive defeat of the year the lads were determined to get back to winning ways. However, despite their determination, Four Roads Roscommon also saw this chance to get a win after their 1st game lost. The game ebbed and flowed and finally the Buncrana boys got their noses in front and were not for the stress level amongst the parents and support the boys. The boys held on for the win with the final score 3-1 to 2-3 to BuncranaGame 3 Vs Templederry/Ballinahinch, TipperaryAfter a “good night’s sleep” our next match was with our host Templederry/Ballinahinch from Tipperary. The hosts were a very good side with a few exceptional players down the middle of the team. The BUncrana boys wanted to put up a good performance, and indeed they never gave up, but out host were very clinical around our goal and took their chances when they came. The final score was 2-11 to 0-2 to Templederry/Balinahinch. This now meant that our hosts had won the group and were heading to play a cup quarter final while Buncrana were of to a shield quarter finalGame 4 Quarter Finals Vs O’Neills Crotta, KerryThe quarter Final paired probably the furthest clubs in the competition, Buncrana ,Donegal and O’Neills Crotta, Kerry, Which why the Féile is such a special competition. Buncrana now were in no mood to lose this match while they may have lost to better teams that morning. They had started to get their game going while the game was exciting. Buncrana were always in control and finished with the victory they deserved. The final score was 2-6 to 1-3 to Buncrana this meant Buncrana was through to the Semi FinalsGame 5 Semi-Finals Vs Sallins of Kildare We now had another trip to South Tipperary on the Waterford border to play Sallins Of Kildare we all felt for the boys as the last match finished at 3pm while their Semi-Finals won’t start until 6.45pm which was a long down time to get sorted for their next game. This again was going to a close game and Buncrana took a good lead, However just on half time Sallins drew level. This seemed to inspire Sallins as they then added 2 quick goals to take a 6 point lead. Again Buncrana were not going to go down without a fight and battled to the end but just as they were getting on top the final whistle blew and we’d ran out of time. Final score was 3-4 to 3-1 to SallinsThe Buncrana team gave their all and represented Buncrana and Donegal with great pride. The management of Tommy O’Neill, John O’Doherty and Francis Craig must be given great praise for looking after the boys all year.
