OPR probing Police shooting of Sophia man

first_imgThe Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a Sophia, Greater Georgetown resident, 25-year-old Patrick Goodluck, by Police.Goodluck, who is battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), was shot by a police rank on Saturday last. Reports are that the man was shot to his back at about 17:00h in the vicinity of his Lot T 72 North Sophia home.Guyana Times previously reported that Goodluck’s sister said that she heard screams and inquired what had transpired when she was informed that her brother had been shot by the police.As such, the young woman and other relatives rushed to the Prashad Nagar Police Outpost where Goodluck had been taken. However, upon arrival there, the family was told that the man was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station. While there, Goodluck began crying out for severe pain so the ranks escorted him to the GPHC where he was admitted and placed under police guard.After being examined by a doctor, it was uncovered that a bullet was lodged in Goodluck’s spine. According to the family, to date, they have not been informed by the police as to what led to the shooting.However, on Tuesday last the man underwent surgery to remove the bullet but uncertainties still linger whether he will ever walk again.His family is calling for justice since Goodluck’s sister is alleging that her brother has been the target of the police for a lengthy period.According to the woman, her brother is always being arrested or harassed by the police.Patrick Goodlucklast_img read more
