Guyana to co-operate with Minamata Convention to eliminate use of mercury in miningPresident David Granger of Guyana, will seek to reassure the international community that Guyana will reduce its use of mercury in its mining industry, and also eliminate its practice, when he attends the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Minamata Convention in Geneva, Switzerland this week.Granger, who is scheduled to depart for Geneva on Wednesday says Guyana takes the protection of its environment very seriously and has been working to reduce the use of the deadly chemical.Preventing environmental degradationDuring a recent interview in New York, Granger also said it is time for firmer action to be taken to prevent environmental degradation and loss of human lives.“I think that it is very important because the reckless use of mercury could be harmful to the population and, of course, it can cause damage that would last a very long time. It is my intention not just to reduce, but to eliminate the use of mercury in the mining industry. It is time for all Guyanese to wake up to the danger. We have had a mining industry in Guyana for maybe over a century and a quarter, but people have been very reckless and my visit to Switzerland is, of course, concerned with reassuring the international community that Guyana wishes to co-operate with it in order to bring this sort of environmental damage to an end,” the President said.Convention signed Guyana signed on to the Convection in October 2013, which aims to reduce the risks of mercury contamination around the world.Switzerland is working to locate the convention’s secretariat in Geneva, which is already a center of expertise in hazardous chemical products and wastes.According to the Convention’s website, the objective of the Minamata Convention is to protect humans and the environment around the world from mercury emissions caused by human activities. The agreement regulates the use of this heavy metal in manufacturing processes and products, the reduction of emissions and the management of mercury-containing wastes.

The workgroup concluded its analysis and found significant gaps in addressing the needs of victims and survivors in our community.”The workgroup will present its findings and recommendations to the full DVOB at the March 25, 2019 meeting for adoption and the final report will be presented to the Miami-Dade County Commission in a subsequent meeting. The DVOB has made significant progress in 2018 by presenting its annual report and a series of recommendations adopted and acted upon by the BCC. One is the commission of a comprehensive study on the state of Intimate Partner Violence in our community. The Workgroup’s report will serve as the basis for the more in-depth study that looks at Miami-Dade County’s Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence. In addition, the DVOB recommended an expedited construction of a second domestic violence shelter for those seeking safety. This new state of the art LEED Certified facility with a kennel to accommodate the family pets will be completed by the end of 2020 and will add 60 beds to the current inventory of shelter beds dedicated for those needing an undisclosed location to seek refuge. The Domestic Violence Oversight Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners with respect to all issues affecting or relating to domestic violence. However, persons are only eligible for this conditional permit if they were residing in the BVI for at least five years and have not received a conditional permit in the last three years. CMC The measures were recently announced by Immigration Minister Vincent Wheatley. “We recognize that many already wish to leave and we will do all that we can to assist those persons in whatever way we can … I am aware that in a time like this, many persons might be disheartened and frustrated by the decision to have them return to their home country. And though we are walking by faith and not by sight, the reality shows a future filled with bleak times for the entire world. Our territory is no exception to that reality,” he further said. Speaking in the Legislature on Friday, he said that work permit holders will also need to submit certificates of earning from the Social Security Board adding that the department will not accept any applications for renewal if they are not accompanied by those documents. That permit is valid for three months. BVI work permit “The reality is [that] some will not be able to find alternative jobs. And without financial or family support, will be required to leave the territory,” Wheatley said. Work permit holders who have been terminated and would like to seek alternative employment can apply for a conditional permit from the Chief Immigration Officer. He said this would assist “in a smooth re-entry when opportunity presents itself”. The policy changes have been implemented amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused multiple lay-offs locally. TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands – The Government of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), has announced new requirements for the renewal of work permits. The Immigration Minister advised persons to register with the Immigration Department by email and giving the particulars of their departure to allow for their exit to be ‘properly recorded’ “Effective immediately, all work permit renewals being submitted to the Department of Labour & Workforce Development are to be accompanied by the company’s good standing from the Social Security Board, Inland Revenue Department and the National Health Insurance as well as ,” Wheatley.
Scotland: PremiershipSt.Patricks vs Celtic (Away win)This is the second round tie of the Scottish Premiership. Having won their first round tie emphatically, Celtic will be ready to do same to their next opponent, St Patricks. This should be a straight win for Celtic as the team will have their eyes on the UCL qualifying tie next mid week.My call for this tie is a win for Celtic. England: Premier League Arsenal FC vs Leicester City. (12 & under 4.5)Arsenal FC have not been lucky with season opening games in the past three seasons, losing all of the ties. The club made some decent additions to the team and the fans will be hoping thatThe club made some decent additions to the team and the fans will be hoping that these new additions can change that ill fortune plaguing the club.Leicester City faced Arsenal twice last season and were able to gain just one point from both legs. The club will be hoping to be the next club to extend Arsenal’s bad start to the Premier League season. It will be safe to call this tie “any team can win this” and not more than 4 goals full time. France: Ligue 1 OGC.Nice vs Troyes. (Home to score 1 to 3 goals)OGC Nice will not want to continue with their bad start to the season after losing to St. Ettien last weekend. This weekend’s tie should be a good opportunity for the club to bounce back and put their new campaign on the right track.Troyes is a team that just got promoted to the French top flight. The club have been here and so this should not be a totally strange terrain for them.Going by what we saw last season, OGC Nice are always imperious at home ties. My call for this tie is for OGC Nice to score at most 3 goals. Belarus: Vysshaya LigaBate vs D.Brest. (1x & under 4.5)As defending champions of the Belarus elite league, Bate Borisov should be disappointed in the position they have found themselves this season. The glory club of Belarus football are placed 3rd on the log just after 17 rounds of matches played.D.Brest, on the other hand, are placed 8th in the league. They have got a not too good away record and as a result, are occupying the 15th position in the away ranking log. The gaffer and players know that the club has got to improve on that abysmal away record.Bate have not lost a tie at home this season and on the contrast, Brest have not won a tie away from home this season. What these facts imply in my prediction are a home win or draw and an under 4.5 goals in the tie. All odds, when accumulated, is a little over a 3 odd multiplier. The MastermindRelated
